F. Naitali, H. Ghoualem

Abstract

Abstract: Drug residues of various therapeutic classes have been found in wastewater, surface water and in treatment plants on all continents.

Life cycle assessment (LCA) of drug substances is essential to better monitor the consequences of their production, use and rejection.

LCA in the industrial production of drugs aims to protect the environment and in particular to improve the cost of technologies for treating industrial or urban wastewater. Life cycle assessment is based on the quantitative assessment of the environmental impact of a product or process by considering all stages of their life cycle.

It allows the identification of the points on which a product can be improved and it contributes to the development of new products.

The objective of this study is to assess the main sources of impact of the industrial production of an antibiotic, spiramycin.

The results showed that the process studied has impacts on the environment. The results also show that it is necessary to minimize the effluents and recover solid waste from the process studied.
